diesel spotting
tell us what other diesels you have spotted mercedes wise or even some weird incarnations
just tonight on my way home from my girlfriends house i saw a imaculate 300CD it was beutiful it had to be the original owner since it was an old man driving .. from what i could see not a spot of rust he really cares for it.. it must of been recently detailed since it shone so nice.. it had chrome wheel arch covers but it looked nice with them.. it sounded perfect at the traffic light.. i wish i was in my car and give him a thumbs up in my D.. sadly the CD was a US spec with the us spec lights.. |

I my hood, an older Benz is common. There's a lot of semi-rich people who (more than likely) bought the car new and are still driving them. When I walk through my neighborhood, I see a lot of w124s in garages; one couple near the end of my long street has a w123 diesel, a w124 diesel, and a w210 diesel - all look like original owners.
Every time I see one (at least once a day I'll see an SD or E-class D) it's a diesel. But I see more gasser w124s than I see gasser w123s or w126s.

MB diesels are common in Houston. I don't see anything I'd consider uncommon around here. The only uncommon MB diesel models are probably pre W123 models like the W115s and Fintails and older models.

My entry to diesel-dom is no longer in my yard, but is still driven daily by my brother. This was an '83 Nissan Maxima diesel; 2.8 liter six with 5-speed stick. At 270,000 plus miles I was still getting 28-30 mpg if I kept it at 60-65 mph. It's a marvelous hill climber, although with the manual tranny you can generate some black smoke without too much effort.
The engine is very beefy, especially at low end. As an experiment one day, sitting stopped on level ground on a residential street, I left it at idle, put in 4th gear and let out the clutch. Before reaching the end of the block, I was motoring along at 18 mph without so much as a hiccough. Definitely had a different song than a MB, a bit more clattery at idle. It has a slight edge in starting up cold in the winter, although my 78 MB has agreed to fire up more or less regularly at 12-15 degrees. There is, however, no comparison in the ride. Nothing finer than motoring through the Big Sky behind the wheel of your Benz. Decided to sell the Maxima because more and more sheet metal was disappearing via the Ugly Rust Monster. |

Diesel spotting?
I thought this thread was about how to get rid of those nasty oil stains in the driveway!
