All engines have a sequence starting with 12. like 12-XXXXXX So your engine would be preceded with 617-912-12- then a 6 digit sequence. So the answer is you order from the -108987 series (the dash indicates UP TO that number) because your engine is lower than 108987. likewise, 108988- has the dash at the end of the number indicating that number and everything HIGHER is in a group. the factory makes changes at some interval point and designate that point as a "cut off" point. It's of great importance to know the engine number to avoid getting a part that won't fit or work to proper specifications.
