Thank You, Brian Carlton....

was lurking on the EGR experiment and how is some cases it actually help the transmission....so encouraged, I bought 39 cents worth of new vaccum line and found a BB...did a temp plug and tightened up some vac connections, 10 minutes tops....took her (why are they female??) for a test run. WOW! I can hardly feel the shifts and this baby wants to run on out!

I was actually thinking the turbo may be inoperative, but was because the tranny was flaring so bad I had to feather the pedal. Not now! Shower down and she flows on down the road.

The dealership had estimated a $1400.00 transmission overhaul ("might be more after we get in there and see")! You fixed it, unsee, for 39 cents! Thanks for your expertise.

This is starting to get fun....

My EGR was actually stuck in the open position from qll the crud that was in it. That BB fix wouldn't have worked for me.

Glad it worked for you though.

The car is a 1983 300TD wagon...I edited my signature BTW.

The dealership is here in Texas...I got the impression this car was not up their standards!

I have no idea if EGR valve was even functional...do know the tranny shifts good now.

Being stuck in open , did that cause you problems? What?

To be honest I couldn't really tell you. Nothing extremely different. The thing is when I bought the car it was getting 18 mpg and there were so many things wrong with it. Vacuum pump, vacuum leaks, timing off, clogged injectors....

removing the EGR valve, for test purposes only , was just one of the many fixes I had to do.

Welcome to the forum.

It most certainly does. It's that big ugly thing that sits between the valve cover and the air cleaner.
