300 SD Transmission

I found a nice low mileage 1983 300SD 117k. It needs transmission work. According to the current owner it slips when hot. Estimates range from 1500 to 2400. I think there has to be a less expensive way.

I considered taking the rebuilt trans (done at 290k by pervious owner) from my 1985 300sd with 302 which I am selling. It is a great car but has typical midwest rust.

If anyone has a souce for a good used trans or a good rebuilder I would appreciate it!

Check out the listing for the 1985 300sd

Thanks,

David

There usually is a less expensive way. And, it involves simple vacuum and/or modulator adjustments and/or the replacement of the K1 spring.

Many times these transmissions can be completely fixed for less than $50.00 if you have the knowledge.

Check out what this fellow did for $12:

The info is all on this forum.

The 85 uses a vacuum amplifier in controlling modulating pressure, while the 83 does not.
