replacing the upper control arm
Not too bad. I replaced the rt upper cntl arm and now she makes a lot less noise. I didn't do the lt side yet. I'll do it next month. I replaced both front stabilizer bar bushing pairs while I was in there.
The guy at the mercedes parts place told me I could boost my low end hp by manipulating the turbo mudule set screw. It is located under the intake manifold, driver side. I could'nt get the cover off. Anyone do this before? Also there is another screw on the backside of the fuel control which is also suppose to give more boost???? I also added some Lucas oil additive and fuel injector cleaner. I also pulled off the battery and tray and cleaned and spryed the terminals. I notice she starts right up now. Only bad thing was getting yelled at by the mngnt of my apt complex for working on my vehicle. Advise from experience anyone. |

good job... how did you seperate the the guide arm from the upper control arm?
regarding upping your boost... I've never done it because I have a N/A, but search ALDA and prepare for a flood of information.

Be very careful messing with the turbo boost. If you want more power get the engine running tight first, then go for more boost.

This is a ball joint removal tool but I believe he used a pickle fork:
If your replacing the Upper Control Arm (UCA) then a pickle fork will work just fine. You don't have to worry about damaging the ball joint or it's boot. If your not replacing the UCA then use the tool pictured above. I'm going to be attempting this within the next week or two. I also have to replace the rear of the guide rod assembly. You can see the torn boot: Danny

I replaced the left (worst) upper control arm today. It was suprisingly easy. I did remove the false firewall though. Made it a lot easier to get to that back bolt. Of course I replaced he sway bar bushings too.
That guide rod assembly that I thought was going to be easy was a PITA. It just would not go in, even though I cleaned the crap out of the housing. I started it with a hammer and used a C clamp to press it in. That did the trick nicely. The right side isn't too bad so I'm going to wait 2 weeks to do that side. Would have liked to get it all done today but ran out of time. I took it for a test drivr and WOW!! I can't believe how smoooth it is. Danny
