turbo question

i was wondering if you could put a turbo from a 300 onto a 240?

if so how much do you think it will cost?

I'm sure that there is a lot more to it then this, but I would think that you would have to fabricate your own intake and exhaust manifolds. It wouldn't be imposable, and I bet it would work well, but I don't think the parts exist to make it work off the shelf. You’ll have to do some fabricating. It would be a fun challenge, but I bet its more trouble then its worth.

You would also have to install oil jets to squirt up and cool the pistons. If I remeber correctly the pistons on the turbos are different so you will have to change those too. Then you'll want to modify the injector pump with an ALDA to adjust fuel for optimum power.

what year did they come out with the OM606?

i am looking at older models but this engine looks like it came out in the 90's, not much hope in finding it in a junkyard or able to find for under $1000.

ALDA is useless for small power increase. 240D will need only new exhaust manifold, downpipe, oil lines and of course, turbo + air filter. stock intake manifold will work. turbo should be size of T3 and 1-2 rounds more fuel - that's it. power should be around 100hp. got to be blast to drive!

are you just joking around or are you say that it would increase by 100 hp?

that would be alot of fun if it had that much increase of power.

is that all you really have to do to put a turbo on? it seems to look to easy. what would the price range be?

Sure it can be done, but the engine will need so many mods that it is not really feasable. The injection pump for one has no boost enrichment etc.

it would increase the power TO 100hp total...maybe. You would need to rebuild the engine and something would have to be done to the crank as I believe that the 5 cylinder turbo cranks are stronger along with the connecting rods and pistons with the aforementioned oil passages.

It would prob be easier to install a 617 turbo engine which is a 5 cyl turbo of the same family as the 240d's engine. 125hp stock. But I remember the swap being pretty involved as it included the rear end too. But I could be mistaken.

The 6 cylinder diesels are much more expensive and rare. The 603 was available in 87 E class only and was never available in the W123 chassis. There was a 3.5 liter 603 in the S class but it is known to be more problematic. The 606 has many electronic controls that can be bypassed, but the turbo models were available in the E class from 98 to 99. Thousands of dollars to start such a project!

the 240 isnt slow, just fasionably late!
