Want mileage? Slow it down!

I get 32 mpg in my *W126* 300SD 617 turbo. Her freeway cruise speed is 62 mph. This earned a middle finger from some guy in a Dodge Hemi the other day. Caught up with him 5 miles later while he waited for a stoplight once off the highway. Told him, "quit raising the price of gas, moron!"

Think about it. Supply and demand...

And yes, a 300SD will cruise on 80 mph easily, and get over 20 mpg doing it, but I don't care to hear the engine. I'd rather listen to the stereo...

I used to get like 23 mpg in mine, and for some reason I thought that was ok... shows how much I know.

Anyway, yeah, peak fuel mileage was set around 55-65, anything over that is going to push the engine and the fuel economy will subesquently suffer.

PS - that and it sounds like it is going to explode when you drive at those speeds.

After the 2.47 and having my injectors rebuilt, I'm getting 31 mpg @ 65-70mph on my 80 mile daily commute. I'm looking forward to this summer when I put her on the open roads - can't wait to see what kind of mileage I get then.
