Spring pads
Ok so I am putting new Bilsteins in the rear of my w123... and while im back there I would like to raise the car up in height so that when it is empty (no passengers or cargo in trunk) it wil sit a tad bit higher than the front. My subframe mounts are fine. Would the next logical thing to do in order to raise the height be the adddition of thicker spring pads?
Any advice on raising the rear of my car ever so slightly would be greatfully appreciated!

Thicker pads will indeed raise the car a bit. Standard is usually the 14mm pads, so if you got the 19mm max thickness ones I'll bet that it'd raise it quite a bit over the old smushed 14mm's that are on there.
New shocks will help too, I'll bet you'd gain at least 3-4cm of ride height with those changes...

just what i want to hear pawo! over the past year my w123 has gone from sitting level, to sitting nose high and rear heavy.... not to mention that the "yaw" when accelerating has dramatically increased from a year ago. I see w123's that frequently look as though they are riding nose heavy, and tail high which I actually like alot. My front end is newer (about 40K miles since rebuild) so now is the time to tackle the rear.
any other opinions are always welcome! Aside from spring pads, are there any other methods to raising the rear up?

Maybe your differential mount is bad and needs to be replaced. Also, check the subframe mounts and replace if necessary.

I replaced the rear springs in mine and that helped a lot but I still need new subframe bushings

New shocks will help quite a bit... at least it did on my end.

Your subframe mounts aren't okay if they are original regardless of how they look.

Hey Nate,
You may want to just put the Bilsteins in and see if that has an effect on ride height. If the old ones were pretty worn, you may see a rise in ride height, then go from there. Although I wouldn't doubt that some of the rubber bits might have sagged over the years. Anthony |
