83 300TD take out front seats

searched and did not find. How do you remove the front seats? Two front bolts are a piece of cake. At the rear, all I see are two big Philips screws holding the track on the base.....I don't even see any rear bolts (but it is stuck to the floor).

Seat is all the way forward and raised as high as it will go, plastic trim removed...I don't see no stinkin' bolts.

Anybody done this on a 300TD wagon? Any ideas?

TIA!

Hmmm,

I have my wagon parked at the school right now... (no insurance ) but I can take a look. Hard to beleive it is different then my 115 but it might be. The 115 is just 4 bolts. Is it possible that the 2 other bolts aren't there ie fell out and you can just pull it out. I'll try and take a look if I remember tomorrow.

On 123 sedans you move the seat forward on its tracks and the rear seat track bolts are exposed.

yeah Motorhead I did that, up and as far forward as it'll go.

No bolts...I see two thing-a-ma-jigs, round, no flats like a bolt, look like they are pressed on...these are where the pics I've seen of the back bolts...I'm fixin' to go try and pry them off!

From a new car assemble point of view....why would they make this such a PITA??

Found another picture that looks like it matches my wagon....maybe I don't have the seat all the way forward and up (big ass in front of the steering wheel in the way??). It has become a mission. It will come out. Or I will find a bigger hammer.

your front seat isnt up enough

first time i pulled the seats it drove me crazy - i swore i had the seat all the way up and forward....i didn't of course and could not see the bolts i needed - try some PB Blaster in the track or WD-40 and really try to move the seat up more.

Yeah, I was not up all the way...put the red head in the driver seat, told her pull this and this up, i got in the back seat and pushed with my legs...that got it done! I managed to move seat all the way up and piss-off my wife at the same time...she has no sense of humor when it comes to steering wheels imbeded in her thighs...how was I supposed to know that, first time it ever happened!

I can readily see how the pool noodles will boost the seat springs. But now that they are out I'm really thinking hard about new leather bottoms and about the $$$$$ too.

seat repair

I used the noodle idea and some fuel line to fix my broken/saggy springs and it made a huge difference....though someone had the idea of using memory foam and one day i'll get around to redoing it that way.

I remember very well that my first impression upon sitting in a brand new '79 240D was dismay at the firmness of the seat. I had expected a comfort befitting the price of the car and found the front seats nearly as hard as a waiting room chair in a government office. It took a long drive to come to appreciate that firmness's benefit.
It's amazing that such a seat could go as soft and springy as these do, almost without being noticed doing it.
