81 300 SD Won't start...

Thanks in advance guys, you're the best...

Im continuing to restore this car, and just changed the glow plugs and recently replaced the starter. Prior to this work the car was pretty good about starting right up but the starter needed a good knock every now and again. She has been sitting for roughly two months, the starter will turn but won't turn over completely and sometimes the new starter won't turn at all requiring the knock that the old starter required. Finally, all of this turning and trying to start is rather draining on the battery so I'm having to charge it pretty frequently. Any advise would be greatly appreciated, and again thanks...

My mom's father-in-law bought it new, then my mom's husband had it for a while, and now it's mine. First week I had it someone hit the drivers door and took off! Other than that the body is great. As for the interior, the backseat needs to be redone and a couple of minor things. I love that iconic big body Benz look. My goal is to get it back to it's original posh condition. Thanks in advance for the help.

first I would check all the wiring and make sure all connections are clean. Especially the ground wires. Make sure there are no frayed wires.
