Rolling Clunk in 77' 240D only on acceleration

I've seen many posts on clunking noises but none that address my problem. Every time I accelerate from a stop a rolling clunk is felt. It doesn't happen when downshifting or in any other gear. It feels like a huge barrel rolling in my trunk. It's a 4 speed 240D. Any thoughts?

have you checked the trunk?

then too you might have something smaller under your seat faking you out.

it really doesnt sound like other things, but have you checked the rubber donuts in the driveshaft?
