The link to the article I posted, on your first thread about the k1, shows a part number for the b2
go to the dealer parts counter, give them the number

alternatively, Phil can get you this part
it's that easy

the article explains where the b2 is and how to remove and replace

again I'm posting the b2 article
read the article thoroughly

I'm sorry to tell you but you have to drain and fill yet again. Of course, you could just refuse and sell the car to me Just reuse the gasket and fluid and don't be a crybaby(JOKING, PLAYING AROUND, JUST KIDDING, ETC).

Quote from Sexton's writeup:
'The good news is the repair can be made while the transmission is in the car in the case of a 126 it's pretty easy - in other chassis the trans needs to be dropped just a little although people have reported success, with some effort, of doing it to 123 and 107 chassis with the tranny in place. It's not a terribly expensive repair either, the part is about $100 and it'll take you a couple of hours. While there's a few steps to this it's really only a little worse than changing a spark plug and you don't need of be a master mechanic to do this.'

Don't be afraid. If you could, please post photos for the forum

b2

i found some directions on the b2... and they say to remove the pan and release the b2....so this is what i dont understand...

1. you move the tranny down and over and remove the b2 cover...

2. you remove the pan and reach up and release the b2....?

how do i release the b2 from inside... to me it seems tha i should just be able to pull it out... or better yet it should pop out becasue of the spring..

I haven't done it yet either, but from the instructions, it sounds like you should be able to manipulate it (push it out) from inside with the pan off. The K1 is all inside the tube there, but this B2 must be accessible.

I have done the b2 piston with the trans in the car on a 83 300d.

drop crossmember lower trans and push to one side.

remove cover, piston should easily pull out by hand or with pliers.

not much room

mine fell out in pieces.

be sure to replace the cover seal ( don't ask how i know)

i did not remove the pan

be carefull not to drop the pin behind the piston or you will have to remove the pan to get it.

cleanliness is very important!!

have fun enjoying your properly working tranny!

Steve

I just did this job on my '86 300sdl and it is not a bad job. You do need to drop the rear of the tranny down and getting the piston our was done without ever removing the pan. I replace the o ring in mine but had to remove the piston to do it. Still leaks a little though.

I am halfway through mine right now (1983 300SD). I followed instructions I received on this forum as follows:
1) remove pan and drain
2) remove 4 bolts on back support and lower trans about 2 inches
3) pust B2 in with a prybar and remove retention clip
4) My B2 came out in two pieces along with the spring and a 2 or 3 inch bar.

I ordered the part and it should be here on Monday.
My question - Where does the bar go when I put it back in?

The pan does not have to come off. It will have to come off if the little dogbone falls out but it is not manditory to start. Take the new B2 piston and put a dab of vasoline where the dogbone goes. Put the dogbone in the B2 piston and pack more vasoline around it. This will hold the dogbone in place and allow you to put the B2 back in and usually the dogbone will go right in to the band and all will be good. I did my 84 300D that way. What everyone else is saying is true about the rest of the job. I did work for a transmission shop before so I have a few tricks up my sleeve but I am certain you can do this too. Vasoline, by the way, is like a product that transmission people use called transjel. It is like grease while cold and melts away after it warms up. Good Luck, Eric.

KI spring replacement

I want to do a B2 piston and K1 spring replacement at the same time . The K1 photo at http://articles.mbz.org/transmission/b2/repair/ doesn't seem to work . Can someone psots some photos or provide a link for the K1 spring replacement project . Also is there some aftermarket source similar to bulkpart.com for the parts for these 2 jobs ? - Thanks
