I'm a wee bit confused. Speedometer problem

I'm a wee bit confused. This is the speedometer (not working) in my car. http://decristoforo.com/speedo/speed2.jpg
It appears to be electronic.

This is a speedometer cable in my engine compartment.

This is a instrument cluster from a junker with a mechanical speedo.

I would like to use it but I can find no access through the firewall to run the cable.

As I have no idea what came first (the chicken or the egg so to speak) any help with this puzzle would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
R.J.

In the first pic the speedo is not electronic., it looks like a later 240D and the other cluster is from a 300D or SD. I think you need to get a speedo from another 240D. There is a hole down there to stuff that cable back through.

Its a good idea to ID your car with your signiture.

Speedo

Sorry, 81 300td wagon. The first pic is the speedo thats in the car and it is electric. I know because I pulled the cluster out. The 3rd pic is a mechanical speedo from the junk yard. I can't find the cable hole anywhere.
Thanks!

RJ..

I think the first pic is of an instrument cluster from a "later" W123, 240D. (big clock and speedo to 85 mph) NON ELECTRONIC, and the second pic is of one of the 617 cars, your TD? also NON ELECTRONIC speedo. Keep looking the hole is there in the fire wall.

Speedo

Thanks Steve, When I have a moment I'll pull it out and take a pick of the back.

Maybe you were looking at the 2 prong connection for the cruise control, its on the upper side of the speedo.

The hole for the cable is up and to the left (standing in front of the car looking aft) of where the steering shaft goes through the fire wall.
