I don't think it matters. Those ridges may be there to identify the length of the part. The BEST way to handle that part (which may be overkill in most situations) is to install it with the piston and measure the freeplay in the B2 band, which should be 5.5-6.0mm. The part is then used if in tolerance or another (usually longer) one is put in to make the freeplay right.
That said, if the "neck" on the dogbone isn't at the middle, I'd put the "neck side" in.
