The new B2 Piston looks different?

Hi, I just picked up the new B2 piston for my 83 300SD and it looks different (then again mine was in pieces). The part number on the Mercedes box is A 107 270 04 32. It looks as though it may fit. I am going to try it. I have one question.

The dogbone that came out of the trans has two different ends. One end has three ridges on the shaft the other has none. Which way does it go in?
Thank you - Dennis

I don't think it matters. Those ridges may be there to identify the length of the part. The BEST way to handle that part (which may be overkill in most situations) is to install it with the piston and measure the freeplay in the B2 band, which should be 5.5-6.0mm. The part is then used if in tolerance or another (usually longer) one is put in to make the freeplay right.

That said, if the "neck" on the dogbone isn't at the middle, I'd put the "neck side" in.
