What's a good glue for Carpet? (85 300D)

What's a good glue for carpet? I was thinking of using Liquid Nails.
This is for gluing the carpet down on my 85 300D that I pulled from a donor car with a great leather interior ( dark blue) vice the worst one which Mercedes made for the 300D ( puke vinyl mustard greenish yellow).
I dont want the glue to be too strong, or too weak because sometimes you have to pull it up when you weld on the floorpans.

The auto stores (Advance) have a spray glue that should be perfect for that. 3M makes two kinds of spray glue if you want to pay more. They make the 8090 superstrength for hood liners, and then the make a weaker stuff - don't remember the number, sorry. But, the auto parts store stuff should cost about half that.

I would try Ace Hardware first and look for glue specifically for carpet.
Those types of glues are made to hold but can be pulled up when needed. Like a cove base glue. Not permanent but holds good and releases easy.

IIRC there a spray-on auto upholstery adhesive we use. Works like rubber cement. Spray on both surfaces- bonds when tacky. Works well and will come apart with some careful prodding. We have used it on headliners and to refresh the "felt" on those rubber inner door seals. Any McParts should have it- Permatex, I think makes it but there's likely a 3M equal.
