Look for ones with starter wart on the right side of the bellhousing. Those are the only trannies that swap with the 616 or 617 engines. Chances are the 5-speeds your pickapart has are from later model gassers and have the wart on the left side.

In case you haven't heard, 5-speeds are pretty daggone rare. In the W123 chassis, they're only found as a stock item in a very few Euro gray-market cars.

In the 80s only the 190 series and a few 300Es came with 5-speeds.

Speaking only of US models.

I know Randy has a euro 240D with a 5 speed. And the euro 280E had it available as well.

I looked around for a 5spd for my 190- mine's got a 4 speed (greymarket). Everything I found was WAY outta my price range- and when I talked to my mechanic he suggested keeping the 4spd- something about "more reliable" and "cheaper to fix" and etc. Still- I cringe at 70mph- sounds like 5000 rpm under there! Good Luck!

70? interesting... mine (grey market 4 spd) cruises all the way at 85.. at 95ish it starts to float to much... certainly nothing like my honda but still nice.
