how much oil for a 240D?

can any of you 240D owners help me out. i just got my 240D and am in the middle of an oil change. i need to know how much oil to refill, and my manual says that the 300D and 240D both take 6 quarts. i just find it hard to believe that the 240D and 300D take the exact amount.

can someone clarify?

i put 7 quarts in my 300D and it measures right up..but 6 quarts for a 240D sounds about right.. put the oil in turn the car on let pressure build. make sure pressure is stable take it for a drive check oil when you come back ... rember to put the drain plug back in the pan

If you will search you will find this has had some great discussions... particularly with respect to the fact that many people ( including me with my 1980 240d ) find that making sure you don't "overfill " it can make a LOT of difference in the oil used.
Most people find that keeping it at half way between "max" and "min" works well. Now, one thing you have to look for is the color of your dip stick... I think there may be three different colors on the handle... indicating that MB had feedback and adjusted the marks on the dipstick.

I am also a new owner of a 1981 240D. I ordered from the MB web site, a manual. Manual states 7 qts. When I changed the oil/filter for the first time, it seem to take a lot of oil to get it up to the full mark.

My 240D seems to need about 6-1/2. Have you checked the oil after letting it sit for a while (on level ground). Sometimes it takes a while for the oil to all drain to the pan. I normally put in 6 quarts, then start it until the oil pressure comes up (to fill-up the oil filter). Then I let it sit for about 10-15 minutes and recheck it. Then I add more oil to bring it up between the two marks on the dipstick.
