82 240D Auto. Odometer works intermittently and speedometer indicator runs about 5 mph slow. I have pulled the instrument cluster - Almost! All connections except the Oil Pressure line. Not wanting to break something, I think I need some directions. Also, attached to the main wiring plug line is a smaller two hole female connection and I haven't a clue where it goes. I should mention the "Bright" lite fixture is missing? Could there be a connection here? Then, can I just take off the odometer cover and see what gives? Or should it be sent to a pro shop for rebuild?

Thanks

If the oil pressure is a manual guage, it'll take a 10mm to uncouple (be sure to use a counter hold on the guage). I don't know about the double connector.

Once you have the cluster free enough to move out a little farther you can un screw the speedo head from the cluster and remove it. There are directions on how to attempt a fix yourself, try doing a search using the search function at the top right. I opted to farm the job out to http://www.paspeedo.com .

They rebuilt my speedo head, turn around was like three days. I also filled out the speedo ratio error form as my speedo was 10 MPH off at highway speed. They rebuilt and recalibrated and shipped back all for under $150.00 US.

Last thing. while you have the cluster out, now is a great time to replace every bulb in the cluster. FastLane has the proper bulbs and it'll cost about $6-$7 dollars to replace them all. Makes a world of difference for night driving.
