PEP boys oil filter sale newspaper coupon 2/$6.50 til june 24 2006

I just bought two Fram 2930 filters (made in Turkey) from Pep Boys for about $7.00 after taxes. Regular price is over $10 each. The coupon is good for up to four filters, only two on the shelf. The coupon was in the newspaper but they also had it in the store.

We have discussed these filters ad nauseum, search.

Edit: If you don't have the coupon from the newspaper you probably can't get this deal.

You are a funny one, you do some really nice work and then turn around and give a lot of bad advice in really immature ways.

We have discussed this ad nauseum, search. If you buy the 2930 built in Turkey you are buying one of the better filters left on the market for the MB diesels. Don't buy the 2930 made in Mexico or if you play the odds, any filter made in mexico or india. This is the cotton gin waste issue. If you don't want sticks, bugs, rocks and dirt in your filter, this is one to buy.

Name brands do not guarantee that a product is built by the company named on the product. Most products are built by subcontractors and relabeled with many brand names. Filters are available with many brand names, most come from a couple factories with sticks, bugs, rocks and dirt in them.

I would buy up all those Fram/Turkey filters I could get my hands on. Around here they have disappeared from the shelves. I only have about 6 left.

Would anyone be interested in this filter with a microfiber/synthetic fiber instead of paper? It seems like a no brainer to me. Anyone know what the micron rating of the best quality filter available right now? Nominal or absolute rated? Any documentation? If I can get some basic info I will mail one of my filters off to Hy-Pro and see if they will run a special for us. They are really competative on their prices, but the best part is that they make the best filter material on the market right now. They have been doing research for several years on the dynamic shock unloading problem in standard filters (when a car hits a bump the other filters unload some of what they caught, the paper filters unload LOTS of what they caught) and have come up with material really resists this problem. They army seemed to like the filters. It has helped reduce the failure rates on the hydraulic servos in their helicopters by catching and HOLDING ON TO the contaminants.

I just ordered several of the Mann filters (A6002-21038).

I hope that it is one that everyone agrees is a good filter. I didn't really search much here to see what was the one to go with.

I'm really interested in the micron rating of the filter. The rest they can get from a sample filter.

This links to a thread with a lot of information on oil filters, also a lot of unfounded opinions and anecdotes (fish stories). It will probably tell you about the Mann filter. If you get the filter and it was made in India or Mexico it probably has the cotton gin waste inside.

We had another thread that was deleted, it had probably more information.

There has been discussion of Baldwin filters which may have the high tech element that you are talking about. The Baldwin filter for the 617 engine was said to be the best available. The Baldwin filter for the 603 engine was said to be made in India and not impressive.

If you can get high quality filters made for these engines and make them easily available you can probably sell enough to make it worth your while. Contact the owners, maybe you can put the mercedesshop name on them.

Oh no! Not another Fram filter thread?

There was a long thread on the Fram issue: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=79478&highlight=wix

I would be interested in a special run if a place makes good filters. No cotton gin waste, thanks! For the 603 engine.

I recently did an oil change and found the Mann (or it could have been Hengst as I bought both of those brands recently) was in two parts, the lower pleated section had separated and was left in the filter cannister (OM617) when I lifted the bailing handle

I was trying to avoid getting my dander up on the Baldwin 603 filter - I was tweaked when I paid big$$ to buy one for evaluation, found it was full of floor sweepings and the rubber seal was out of round at the bottom and it was made in India. An Email to the factory QC person was never answered

Thanks for the info. It seems that the best guess out there is that these engines use 25 micron filters. I'll send the spare filter in my trunk out for them to look at. It may take a couple of weeks, considering I will be on vacation next week.

Everything Hy-Pro sells is made in their factory in Fishers Indiana. They may end up being expensive, but it can't hurt to ask. I went through their distributor training last year when we were working on a national contract between my former employer and Hy-Pro. I have a strong engineering background (the hands on type) and was impressed with their facilities. I was also impressed with their product when we put it in service. It did exactly what they said it would.

They warned up ahead of time that after installing their filter we would have a period where we were going to go through filters faster. Sure enough we did. Once the filters got the previously dirty systems cleaned up the usage rate went down. The filters take out 99.5% of the particles for the size they are rated at and their dualglass G7 (or are they up to version 8?) material holds about 4x more dirt than a paper filter. They cost about double a paper filter, but clean better and hold 4X more dirt. The question is how much will they charge to make some. If I get them going I will have them up on my site, www.FryerPower.com.

I found several of the made in Turkey 2930 filters at the local PB, but they don't seem to be on sale here. Regular price is $10.49. Is there a coupon code or online coupon that could be used?

thanks,
