This problem may be due to your browser software. The service manual site http://mb.braingears.com/ will work with Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser but not with Mozilla's Firefox. Don't know why, but that is my experience and that of others. I use Firefox most of the time but switch to IE for the manuals.

If you are still having this problem, try changing all the "\" in the address to "/". I don't know why, but I have to make that change for my Mac browser, Safari, to work.

In case you missed it...'nother one for sale $500

ON this forum, "SKIPPY" has a well described 1977 240D running beater/parts car for $500. It's in Carson City Nevada (just south of Reno) so not too geographically undesirable- might drive to port of SF under its own power..)

Just another one to think about for sourcing the 240 engine

Given your mechanic situation over there, it sounds like simply dropping in another identical motor (the KISS principle) might be the best way to keep costs down and avoid mechanic error here. And maybe get a few dollars back if you can sell off a few parts from it.

You have a lot of people rooting for you to give the baby a successful motor transplant or rebuild.

The 240D is truly a forever car, hope yours will still rise respendent once again to klatta klatta its way around the Is.

finally got the one fuel filter...

at napa's yesterday. Asked for 2, they said they only had the one, as it was a "special order". May try to pick up an extra one in Honolulu later this week, when I am there for a day.

So I washed/waxed the 300E, and changed the star on the hood of the 240. The replacement was bought on ebay for $10, and my confidence is restored, LOL! Was getting ready to change the fuel filter, but I'll wait till later this week. Gonna enjoy this holiday instead.

Happy fourth everyone!

BTW, that's an interesting picture in your signature - I can't seem to figure it out, what is it?

Ha, ha, just shows you how "out of touch" I am with the "real" world. Thanks for the link.

As an observation, the philosophies/beliefs here (on this island, in particular) remind me of the same one would find in the rural midwest. (Which explains why I have not seen this before.)
