7-8psi is what most 300SD's and 300D's run at from the factory. Look elswhere on your SD for your problem, it looks like the turbo is not it.

first sign
no power is the very first sign of a need to
change filters, also clean the tank. Clean the banjo bolt on the back of the engine. |

300sd turbo question
Hello,
Thanks for the replies. I have checked my 1982 300sd/w126 and it runs fine. The PSI from the Turbo to the ALDA rises all the way up to 15 PSI. While my 300sd/w116 stays at 7 PSI. Is it true that all the Garrett Turbo's whisle. I have one that does and one that doesn't. The one that doesn't has the power problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Brian |

300sd turbo
Hello again,
I found this on the web........Richard Sexton The turbo itelf creates in excess of 2 bar (30 psi); to limit this to the 1 bar the car needs, a wastegate vents excess pressure to the atmoshphere. Factory spec is 0.9 to 1.0 bar, (about 15 psi) but they never came that way from the factory, most are in the 0.5 - 0.6 (about 7 psi) bar range. Calibrating this to factory spec makes a phenominal diference in performance. Brian |

The ALDA only requires a little boost to move it. I don't know what PSI will max out its travel though.
Have you adjusted you wastegate to try and raise the boost? If you can't get it to go any higher you might have a cracked wastegate valve seat or need a new wastegate spring. http://diymbrepair.com/easley/wgate.htm http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=114337 My garrett doesn't whistle and it makes about 10 psi of boost. I do need to replace the wastegate spring though. I want to run 14 PSI of boost although spec is 10 to 12 PSI.
