210 Headlamp removal and plastic cover removal - pictorial

I removed one of my headlamp assemblies and also detached the plastic cover to clean inside of it. Once you remove the plastic trim underneath of the assembly (two screws and then slide out to the side) there are two screws plus one nut and washer holding the assembly in. Remove those and it slide out to the front of the car.

Pics 2 and 3 show the screws needed to remove the plastic trim. Pic 4 shows how the trim slides out to be removed It also shows a screw that needs to be removed to remove the assembly. Pic 5 shows the nut and washer that must be removed to remove the assembly.

Here are the rest of the pics. Pic 1 shows the final screw on the top right that needs to be removed for the assembly. Pic 2 is what is left after you remove the assembly. Pics 4 and 5 show the assembly with the plastic cover removed. There are tabs that hold it together.

Nice job

Were you just doing this to replace the lenses?

I just use some plastic polish on mine. Previous owner must have garaged mine all the time.

Good job on the pictures. I have saved the link for future reference.

Thanks.

Thanks. I'm glad you found it useful. I take so much from this forum and am happy that I can finally give something back. I took it apart because the lenses were dirty but I discovered they were actually dirty from the outside, not the inside. So it really didn't make a difference. What kind of plastic polish did you use? The outsides of mine are still dirty.

You can probably use most any plastic polish. I seem to be using currently some.... BlueMagic (WallyWorld) Plastic & Plexiglass Cleaner and Light Scratch Remover - for removing light scratches and hazing on ... convertible car windows, boat windows, helment visors, aircraft windows, good heavens for eyeglasses!?!?! (not on mine), instrument panels, computer screens and all clear plastics...

Use it on the tail light lenses too, perks them up etc.

And yes I get far more from this site than I have ever given back.

Don't go crazy with the polish. The surface is hardened, and you don't want to remove any more than necessary.

Still, I may polish mine up a bit. They're not bad, but obviousely not as good as new.

I recently did this to clean water out. One of the tabs on mine (visible with the headlight installed) was filled with glue, but it broke easily with a careful application of a small screwdriver, and didn't impede reinstallation of the cover.

I put a small bit of RTV around the seal between the body and the clear cover before installation to help it seal, then let it sit overnight with the back cover off to cure. It's been water-free since.
