I have absolutely no idea, but I'd guess they're glass ones with a filament inside.

Sylvania Silverstar low beams in the E300. Didn't wanna drop $$$ for the OEM xenon enclosures.

I have the Phillips (Wagner) UltraBlue Halogens, just put them in a little over a month ago. HUGE improvement in light output and visibility over my old Sylvania standard halogens...which had water inside them! Also, I got them in a phillips automotive lighting sale at Meijer for $18 for the pair!

When I switched to Euros earlier this year, I just used regular old H4 55/60W lamps that I found at O'Reily's. For the fog lamps, I ordered some selective yellow Hella H3 55W Yellowstar bulbs that put out a yellow beam of light. The only thing I don't like about them is they don't appear yellow in the lamps themselves when the lights are on.

Yes, I have one with water in the lights,too. I also have water, in the lights on one of my Freightliners. I keep my Gold-Fish "Wally" in there though. He's a great look-out for trouble, and is always the first on the scene, in an accident situation. He's only got a three second memory, so the cops take his statement first all the time. He likes Texas the best...Never mind why.. We're in Phoenix, Az. for tonight, and through the weekend though.

I get h4 euro bulbs from a place in Britain -- powerbulbs.co.uk. They can ship the two most popular +50 bulbs, Osram Silverstar and Philips Vision Plus, for about $36 per pair shipped. Both bulbs will deliver noticeably more (not "bluer") light than standard 55w60 h4 bulbs, IME, and have proven reasonably durable in my cars. I have a pair of each that have lasted through about 15K-20K miles of night driving.

Powerbulbs apparently has a new high-output product from Philips, but I can't comment on that from firsthand experience.

I have Hella 100/80 watt H4's in my 124. Better light than the originals and not too expensive either.

I am running CIBIE headlamps with H4 bulbs. These are great and they are not some cheap copy. I bought mine at Aardvark International out of California. http://www.cibieusa.com/cibie_main_frameset.htm They also sell the replacement amber fog lamps for the W123 chassis.

I came across these when I was looking to replace my head lamp doors and maybe go to the european lights. However I like the look of the round lights. So I instead got new doors and used the Cibie lamps. They have a the european light pattern which looks like a little more then half circle that is kicked up on the right side. I converted 2 years ago and the H4 bulbs they sold me with the lamps have not burned out yet.

how yellow is the beam? is it as yellow as a foglight would be with a yellow filter lens?

yes, I concur, however Silverstars are alot whiter, but as with any high performance bulb, life expecancy is greatly reduced..I had a pair of silverstars and they barely lasted me two months. but it varies, if you do alot of driving on bumpy or gravel roads, then the bulbs die faster because of the vibration..but hands down, the OE OSRAM bulbs last the longest and give adequate light.
