Windshield gasket info
All
I am looking for the chapter from the FSM on removal/replacement of the front and rear windshields. All this rain here has exposed the need for replacement of the seals. Looked on the skinnerbox site and it's down, or I don't have the updated link for it. Can somebody help me out? Thanks Much

got to get this water infiltration issue fixed

What car you working on.............?
The http://mb.braingears.com/ does not even show a 1985 300D W123 or
W126 cars so that WebSite will not be of help. What's your car. For such a simple task, I think the instructions for a close model should work. Post the specific Yr/Model/W123 etc and then if you want me to e-mail you the file, just e-mail me via this FORUM. Sam Ross // Novato, CA |

Thanks to all.
I think I've found a way to get the braingears site to work. The rain here is unbelieveable!

My windshield leaked too. With the help of a kind soul here on this forum, I fixed it for about 3 bucks. The trick is plastic picnic knife inserted between the glass and the gasket to clean all the crap and crud outta there. Compressed air helps too...just get it clean.
I masking taped off the glass at the edge of the gasket. Autozone, 3 dollar tube of black silicone, apply a nice thin bead under the gasket....running that knife ahead of the tubes helps lift the gasket up. Any silicone that oozes out just gets on the tape, easy clean up. Three bucks, 30 minutes, no more leaks...Thanks to t walgamuth. I'm sure it'll work on the back window too. We used to build big aquariums out of heavy glass plate...all glued togather with silicone. If it'll hold water in, it keep water out!

They also make some "flowable" sinicone that works very well once you have cleaned out that crevice between the glass and the rubber. Best not to use any silicone between the rubber and metal, though, as it is made with acetic acid which isn't kind to metals.

It's a pretty easy job, but when you take out the windshield make sure it's absolutely free. Even if there is the smallest amount of obstruction when you push out the window it most likely will crack. And put the trim back in the seal before you put the window back in.
