Not exactly "free" oil test kit - new customers - Polaris labs

I have never done business with this company nor am I affiliated with them. But, free is free and I hope some of you can enjoy this:

Request Your Free Test Kit
For New Customers Only

The POLARIS Promise: Fast ˇ Accurate ˇ Reliable

Test us and see for yourself how fast, accurate results can affect your maintenance practices.

The value of fluid analysis results diminishes significantly with time as the condition of both the fluid and the equipment being tested continue to change. As a result, turnaround time is often the number one priority when it comes to choosing a testing facility. POLARIS Laboratories offers fast, accurate and reliable testing.

The oil testing kit is free but the oil test is not, similar to Blackstone Labs. Contact them for a test kit which they will ship to you at no charge(essentially it's just a plastic bottle). Fill it with used oil and return it to them. This is when you pay the $30 or so testing fee. You all should already know there ain't no such thing as free.

Your absolutely right. I called and they said the analysis is not free. This is the link to the pricing:

You are also right that it sounded too good to be true. Oh Well. Thanks for catching this before it turned into a waste of time.

They obviously intend to mislead, as they say the kit is "for new customers only". Blackstone sends more "free" test kits after you buy an analysis, and I would expect this company does the same.

I got the kit and called and e-mailed them too after seeing the last couple of messages. According to them, the basic oil test is free. If you want anyhting beyond that, there is a charge. But the kit is prepaid for the basic test according to them. They were disappointed to hear that there is bad information out there about their free kit.

I don't, at least not at this point. I'll let you know when I send it in. My contacts with them have been on the up and up as far as I can tell.

It's tough to see how it could be free. Depends on what's included in the basic test, whether it's testing for wear metal, TBN, etc. Those test kits require a certain length of time to complete, by trained individuals. The testing equipment costs big money too. It's just hard for me to reconcile how they could offer it for free and prepay the shipping on the kit, etc. It may be a situation where the facility is doing a trial free-period to get their feet in the door or something. I know Blackstone charges extra for a TBN.

Well if it's free then that's great. Poor business model for them however to offer to work for free like that. Don't see how they could stay in the black on a deal like that.

My guess is that they are trying to lure customers away from the other labs. It is free for new customers and only for one test. What's included in the test is shown on the pricing link above.

Good guess. Makes sense. Trucking companies test their oil frequently, cab companies, other fleet operators, so I can see the first-test-free scenario working out in the end.
Oh well I already got a Blackstone test kit so I guess I'll just pay this time.

My name is Don Woods and I am the chairman of the board of Polaris Laboratories. Our offer of a free test kit is completely legitimate and completely free. The free offer includes both the kit and the testing. We process several thousand samples every business day so running a few hundred samples as a promotion has little impact. We have had over 100 requests for a free kit and we have sent them out to anyone that is not a current customer and resides in the continental US. We are offering this promotion to attract new customers. We have labs in Indianapolis, Houston, and Salt Lake City. We have rapid turnaround, about 90% of the samples in 24 hours or less and about 99% in 48 hours or less. Our offer includes a moderate amount of testing and has no strings attached, except that you might receive a telephone call from one of our sales personnel. We have the highest quality accreditation in our industry, ISO 17025, at all of our labs, with almost every test we offer in our scope. We have a wide range of testing capabilities for oil, diesel fuel, coolant, high water based fluids, etc. All of our equipment is state of the art. We report more test results than any other lab. Our IT capabilities are head and shoulders better than anyone else in our industry. We have 7,000 users of our web-based program call Horizon that allows them to access their results online within minutes of sample completion or just receive the report via email. If you have any questions about our offer or our company please contact Elaine Walsh, our Inside Sales Coordinator at our toll-free number 877-808-3750 x234.
