What type of tranny fluid do you use in a 210?

The MB stuff is $12 a quart (nonsynthetic) and Mobil 1 synthetic is only $7 a quart. Do you have to use MB fluid? Or can I use Mobil 1 synthetic even though the tranny didn't originally use synthetic?

If you have the 5spd sealed for life trans only use MB. Ask any of the techs that are on the tech forum.

I think the 1996's just had the old 4spd, use whatever is cheaper.

Not worth trying to save $5 a quart on a trans thats going to cost you at least $3k to replace if it blows.

There are many posts and rants on this forum about which ATF is "worthy" of the 722.6. My personal call would be synthetic Dexron III and if the stuff you buy is bright red-pink in color, even better. I believe the MB stuff is actually synthetic (just a rebranding of Febi).

The new recommendation from MB is to use ATF 3353 which is required for the new 722.9 7-speeds, but it is hard to find and costs arm+leg.
