Yuck

The car has around 200,000 miles. I have pretty good receipts, but injectors had not been replaced. I ran 2 cans of purge through last week and had no improvement! I consistently run fuel addititive as well. It is our 300 CD. We are happy to have it back amongst the living. The mechanic told me he would remove and check the injectors and metering valves for about $300. I bought the rebuilt ones for $300 and installed them myself and checked the metering valves myself...

What are the metering valves? Is that the springs and such that regulate when they "pop"?

I assume so

That was my assumption. I pulled them off of the top of the IP, and checked them. They looked fine. No gunk. The mechanic tried to say that the veggie system was the culprit here. I don't think so. I think it was the injectors which had never been replaced.

first

first you should know I am a veggie... 100% right into the fuel tank...

Your injectors are probably fouled by the veggie.....

Go down to pep boys or auto zone and get some parts cleaner. It comes in a paint can and has a little basket inside. Then soak those injectors for a couple of days.... start yourself a rotation. remove an injector and replace it with a spare and soak it for a while. I would even disasseble those and soak them.

Your cylinder sleeve, pistons and rings also look like those injectors.... I use
Diablo carbon remover.... (its used in industral kitchens) I remove the injector and fill the piston and let it soak over night. Then I vacuum the carbon remover out. Then rinse the cylinder with oil...or diesel... or kerosene. or transmission fluid.... rinse it a few times... then change the motor oil.... turn it over a few times and rinse it out real well....Do a cylinder each oil change.

They actually make cameras to look into cylinders... you may want to see inside....

I thougth the second fuel tank was suppose to protect you form carbon..

Next time just send them here:
http://www.coloradobiodiesel.com/

Tom put new German nozzles in mine and calibrated
them, $105 including shipping.
A lot cheaper that rebuilds and I know they are done
correctly.

Louis.
