I'm trying to buy pistons, liners, rings for the 240D. Fastlane need a "engine range" number, either 10-079811 or 12-025981. I've google searched for two days for the location of this engine number and can't get anything but parts ads and viagra ads. The EPA sticker under my hood shows 80 20 24 34. The block number is 606 011 28 01. The stamped plate under the hood shows no numbers like this. Anybody know where this number is located?
This engine was done halfway 3000 mi ago for previous owner, $800 of head work, rings, cam chain, bearings, no mention of liners or pistons. It has 285500 miles on it. It got 25 mph Hwy when I bought it, now down to 17; I theorize that the rings are losing it in the cone shaped holes. It wouldn't start cold above 6000 feet last October at 60 deg F unless towed to 15 mph in second, another sign of low compression I think. Chalma NM and Laughterburg Co. Laughterburg Co tried to arrest me for the smoke screen, but I don't have any outstanding tickets. Glow plugs read low ohms fine. I changed the injectors two weeks ago but don't think that is going to solve any fundamental problems. I hope to go to Denver & Rio Grande Western in CO Labor Day, but need to fix the starting problem. The guys at work say liners are easy to change in a Cummins 855 or some undesignated US Marine diesel.
