How does fuel get to the engine?

Is there some sort of a fuel pump in/near the tank to push the fuel towards the lift pump or does the lift pump suck fuel from the tank?

Cavalier,

Its not a lift pump, its a pressurizing pump for the injection pump. The pump removes a small amount of fuel from the fuel line on each pump cycle and atmospheric pressure pushes the fuel thru the line to make up the loss.
