I remember reading that last week as well, but I think it was just a minor difference like which was used to adjust and which was used to lock,Johnny

The top nut that contacts the rocker arm is the locknut and the bottom one is the adjuster. When you turn the adjuster, if the big collar that holds the valve spring turns, you'll have to find a way to hold it in place or turning the nut won't make any adjustment. They probably won't all move, I think about half of my big collar nuts moved. I used channel locks to hold the big nut in place while I turned the adjusting nut. Make sure you tighten down the locknut when re-checking the clearance.

WRONG! Well I have done tons of valve adjustments I dont understand that comment.

Loosen the top nut, clockwise the bottom nut to gain feeler gauge clearance, lock the top nut back. I can get the valves adjusted perfectly every time.

So again I dont understand your comment.

What do you mean you cant get the wrench on the nut? Are you using a set of straight wrenches?

Ok those are the right tools. People usually have trouble with the exhaust valves. The first time I did a MB it took me a couple of hours now I can do it from start to finish in about 30 minutes. Including removing and replacing the valve cover. It never fails though to get one or two valves that are "problem child" ones.

Which cylinder is giving you the most trouble?

I've always used the bottom nut as the locknut and adjusted the top nut for clearance. Works every time.

did my first mb valve adjustment a few weeks back. had a heck of a problem with the those nuts.,

then try to adjust using the specail wrenches, was still a nighmare. after about 4 or 5 valve, used the wrenches to 'break' and tighten only.. used my fingers to adjust and then used fingers to hand tighten. after i made the nuts as tight as i could by hand, i used the wrenches. sure a lot easier.

next time all the valves will done using this method.
