603 trap oxidizer replacement options
i've just recently acquired an 87 300TD with turbo, i had a 603 non-turbo so i don't know much about turbos...
anyway, i know enough to have the oxidizer replaced, but over here i don't think the recall/replacement applies... so i have to do this on my own... so what do i have to do? just remove the football shaped oxidizer and just bridge the gap? does tube size matter? or can i just remove the innards of the trap so i don't have to fabricate the flanges? thanks

Where exactly is "over here" ?
If your in the US the recall applies. Get it done if you do live in the US, there is a chance you could get a new turbo out of it.

If you hollow the cat, you'll lose a lot of heat and pressure that drives the turbo. You can probably get a replacement part form www.pgauto.com.
While waiting, have a muffler shop weld up a pipe with flanges similar to the trap. Maybe you can cut the flanges off the trap and join them with some 2.5" pipe. Is Nodalos still in business? Sixto ... stay tuned |

I have a few extra pipes from the manifold to the turbo if you want one. Drop me a PM

mr sixto, yep, nodalo's is still in business.
![]() it seems like you know an awful lot about the Philippines, were you once a resident? ![]() hitman, thanks for the offer, that is generous of you. ![]() i'll have to research shipping charges to Manila. So all there is to it is to bypass the trap with 2.5" pipe? does it have to be steel or can i use the flexible pipe thing? and do i have the cat removed downstream also? thanks guys!!!

There shouldn't be an oxidation catalyst downstream if there is a trap oxidizer.

I don't know what the emissions laws are like in the Philippines but hollowing out the trap ox/ox cat may be the simplest solution. It will not be as good as a pipe replacing the trap ox but you will get better performance than you would leaving it intact.
If you do hollow it out, make sure to get all the stuff out. If you don't it can break off and damage the turbo.
