240D EGR disconnect

Can anyone give me the details on disconnecting a 1983 240D EGR. I've read other posts but I'm a little confused, pics would be great! Thanks.

Josh

The simplest method is to find the valve, disconnect the vacuum hose and plug the hose.

That's it.

Now, if you wish to go further and eliminate some of the vacuum lines that go to the valve, I can't help you with that........some of them are transmission related so care must be exercised.

If you have a manual transmission, you might consider what I did. Find an older OM616 in a boneyard and swap out the intake manifold, eliminating all the linkages and that weird butterfly valve that can't be doing any good. Provided, you live where the smog nazis aren't.

You should be OK if you just plug the hose as Brian suggests. You can also remove that black cover on the switchover valve bank, trace the vacuum line from the EGR and plug on the other side of the valve (bypassing the valve). Many of those valves are leaking and causing transmission shifting problems.
