Go to R12 if you're at this point. Replace all the o-rings as well as the parts on the dryer.

Nothing. I used r134 valve adapters. F12 is MOSTLY r134. It also contains CFCs and is refulated by the EPA just as R12. Epa issued notices in last few months and it will be harder to come by.

Don't kill the messenger..
http://www.macfreeze.com/ Much better than Freeze 12 before you guys all hammer me on this read the FAQ and Legal jargon.. "EPA's Final Rule, issued April 1, 1994, states: "In this final rule, the Agency has determined that second generation replacements, if they are non-ozone depleting and are replacing non-ozone depleting first generation alternatives, are exempt from reporting requirements under Section 612"

If you read the epa web site, Freeze 12 sales are not regulated. The release of HFC during repairs without the proper reclaimation equipment is illegal. It is not going to be hard to come by like R-12.

If its not too late, go in with synthetic compressor oil. It'll extend the life of the already crappy compressor and if you have to switch refrigerants, all you'll have to do is vacuum it down, as synthetic oils are compatable with both r134a and r12 (freeze 12 too I'd imagine). Plus since you've already done all the hard work, its not that much more to get your license and get r12. That's what I did and I'm very pleased with my system. Next spring I'm getting my windows tinted then I'll be golden.
