Switchover valve
PO or PO's mechanic bypassed the switchover valve between the ALDA and the banjo bolt.
If I am looking at it head on, which port does the ALDA plug in to? 1982 W123 300D Thanks!

Ok, thanks, but I still need to know whick port on the switch over valve the ALDA plugs in to, the left or the right.
Diesel Giant references the switch over valve in the banjo bolt cleaning pictorial, but which line is which at the switch over is not noted. Since some idiot disconnected the switchover and hooked the banjo bolt line directly to the ALDA, I do not know how to correctly hook it back up. Since there is a choice of only two positions, I have a 50/50 chance of getting it right the frrst time. I prefer to be correct the first time to avoid causing any damage. Thanks!

Not all switchover valves are of the same design. What does yours look like?

It looks just like the one in Diesel Giant's pictorial.

Not to hijack your thread, but is it obvious where the electrical portion of the switch over valve runs? I am trying to figure how to add one to my 240D frankencar. Also I think that the dieselgiant pictorial does show which port connects to the banjo bolt. I believe that it is the one that is being pointed to with a screwdriver.

Assuming that your valve is the cylindrical style, the ALDA is connected to the port on the right side of the car (left side when viewed facing the firewall from the front) and the port next to the electrical connector is for the line from the manifold.

Thanks Tangofox!
Now I get to go to the dealer to get new line, as Phil told me he does not carry it.
