Any of you guys pulling your ALDAs on a 300SD or compatible [OM617?] want to send the switchover valve my way? The PO seems to have removed it.

According to these guys, Druck = Pressure:

Edit: Also, both "print" and "pressure" translate to "Druck" so I guess it came mean either. However, in this context "pressure" seems to make more sense.

After reading of the overboost possibility, I think I will leave my ALDA where it is after all. The EGR and ARV are still coming off and/or being disabled, but I don't really need the added power - I have not noticed any real lack of power with the 350SD, so I think it will be fine as is. Still sounds tempting, but I should probably try to stay on the safe side.

If I were to do something like this and end up blowing the engine, my wife would absolutely KILL me!!

214,000 miles is right - If I want to make my wife happy, I'm going to have to drive this thing for the next 18 years! Let's see....

....at roughly 15,000 miles per year....

....for 18 years....

....that's a total of 484,000 miles...

WISH ME LUCK!!!!

I put the ALDA back on. I put a new vaccum line to the intake manifold and acceleration seems a lot better. I will monitor and adjust the ALDA if needed. Thanks to all for the help.

Thumbs up

Yanked it today on my SD... the dead stop to about 10-12mph pick up is much nicer. On boost is about the same...

Worth the time? Hell yes.

Emissions

ForcedInduction, do you think you'll have a problem passing emmisions with it removed? I'm sure they romp on it a few times to check the smoke, but I don't know because they wouldn't let me watch...

Just came across this thread.

Don't know where I've been....but I just discovered this thread. Interesting stuff, removing the ALDA and getting better performance.

The Bosch VE rotary pumps that live on pre-94 Dodge/Cummins trucks have a remarkably similar-looking gizmo to the exhalted ALDA.... interestingly enough, it's called a SMOKE CONTROL.

I found this a long time ago; take a look:
1st Generation Ram Diesel Power Increase 1989 through 1993 Models with the Bosch VE injector pump

I can "adjust" the IP to pass.

In other words, I adjust the external linkage stop on the IP so that they only get 1/2 throttle. The place I use didn't even open the hood. They thought it still had a 2.4L I-4 in there, just with a turbo installed.

But here's my question.....

Do I have to worry about EGT's? I don't yet have a pyro and simply can't afford one. I don't want to melt something just because I'm in a bit of a hurry!

I removed the ALDA, but couldn't live with the dense clouds of black smoke emanating from my tailpipe if I blipped the throttle in anything other than a hyper-conservative fashion. I did get a small seat-o-the-pants improvement in off the line acceleration, but that just tells me I need to adjust the ALDA a little. My IP isn't internally adjusted to stock fuel rack settings, so my findings probably aren't relevant to the larger pool of stock pumped vehicles on the list.

Had the '86 up to CT for two days..........250 miles or so. No ALDA. Never smoked even once...........with the use of about 1/2 pedal below 2000 rpm. Not even a hint of smoke. 1/2 pedal is perfect and comfortably keeps up with the gassers unless they mash their right foot.

I'm going to leave it off for the entire tank and see what the fuel economy will be. The SDL typically gets 28-29 in mixed driving without a/c. Be interesting to see if there is any deterioration.
