Seems like more and more cars are leaking fuel recently...

...is it possible that the switchover to ULSD has begun and we are seeing some leaks as a result of this? I know most pumps still have the LSD warning stickers on them, but as they phase in ULSD I assume they still leave the stickers on until the systems are completely free of LSD...it just seems that in the past few weeks there have been many more posts of fuel leaks...especially at the delivery valves on the OM603 and 606...mine has not leaked (yet) but I am watching and sniffing...

Seems like. I don't know if we are just noticing them more now since we expected somthing to happen with ULSD. Or if ULSD is some how contributing to the leaks.

Luckly delivary valve seals and cheap and simple enough to replace, and at the moment they seem to be the most affected.

The thing is, you might be getting ULSD, or close to it, and not knowing it...my understanding is that until several refills of ULSD have been made to an existing tank they can't remove the LSD sticker because during the transition the mixed fuel still has more sulfur than ULSD but less than LSD...once there have been several tanks of ULSD "flushed through" the station can consider their system free of LSD and can remove the warnings...this all has to be done before the '07 cars and trucks start making their way onto the roads.

That's why I suspect we are seeing more and more leaks...as the new fuel is introduced the sulfur levels are getting closer to ULSD during this period of transition.

its seems to be happening to alot of the TDIclub members as well. But only to the older pre-03 VE TDI's. But doesnt seem to affect the 04-present PD TDI's

They say its the aeromatics in the fuel that cause the seals to shrink and then leak.

All the more reason to add biodiesel to your fuel.

a few weeks ago, I saw on all the diesel fuel pumps, the sign about 2007 diesels not to buy here.

now these signs are gone, and now I have 'weeping' fuel return lines. At least I have wettnes around the injectors. is it possible this new fuel causes the actual injector to leak.

I just replaced all the return lines a month or so ago.

should I replace the lines again and see if this works, or do i have other problems.

Same here...

I have newly developed leaking on all 6 delivery valves on the '87 300SDL. Occured in the last 2 weeks (2 tankfulls). I haven't seen any changes on the '83 300D.

The IP on my SDL remains dry, knock on wood. But I did all the delivery valve O rings when I first got it 3 years ago. So they should still be in good shape.

Almost all stations are running ULSD right now. It's not until they purge and clean their tanks then get certified by the EPA that they can/will post the new labels. The new fuel has minimum requirement for lubricity and viscosity set by the EPA for all refineries and distributors. They don't *need* any additives to work well in older diesels. But, adding biodiesel or store-bought treatments certainly won't hurt.

Chances are, you have been running ULSD since July without knowing it.

You're probable right, lance, since the ULSD topic never really popped into my mind untill I saw the new sticker on a NEW station last week.....

I've had weeping injector return lines right from the get go, so I can't really formuate an opinion on ULSD till something more substantial developes...

I did get some on my fingers a few days ago and the lower lubricity is VERY obvious, and I winced in thought of what thet's doing to my IP.

New stations have it easy. They don't have to drain, flush, clean, and inspect their tanks and pumps like established locations do.

Canada is also not subject to the USA's EPA regulations.
