76 300d repair

k as in my other post, i have a 76 300d, this is my first car, and needs a few repairs, so any and all help would be very appreciated. i'm not very mechanically inclined, so great detail would also be very appreciated

76 300d 107,945 miles

*post may be long*

bought car at sealed auction, payed 701.99 after first three weeks went to start it and wouldnt start. i suspected battery, got a jump and went to two auto parts stores (o reilleys, and advance auto parts) and got battery and alternater test, both told me it was the alternator (made me very said ) so i went to an alternator specialist here in town. (lex, ky) they told me they didnt know that they were talking about and it was the battery. got battery replaced, and havent had probs with that since

anyways problems with car: (in no particular order)

antenna does NOT work, it is a brand new antenna, but doesnt work????
ac doesnt work- car did not have a/c belt on it when i got the car, so i assumed it does not work. even though the a/c compressor does not seem to be seized
vacuum locks do not work- assume leak but dont know where, i also assume the resevior is not holding vaccum, vacuum trunk lock does not work either, fuel door vacuum lock works, but ONLY if you lock the car right when you cut it off
shifts sorta hard, seeing as the chassis is a 115, i think it was said the shifting on these models is not vacuum modulated. something about the linkage on top of the engine being adjusted
driver side window gets stuck halfway going back up, have to pull on window and press up button up as same time to get up
cruise control goes in and out, sometimes works, and sometimes doesnt, dont really care about it as much as other non working stuff
rear window heater, have to hold knob, light goes out once you let go

any and all detailed info would be helpful please describe i might not know certain terms, will take pictures to help if requested chassis is 115, model 76 300d

keep in mind im a high school student, w/income about 700/month, thanks and thanks

I know nothing about this chassis, but what I do know is the best $20 you will spend on it is here :

http://www.classictechlit.mbusa.com/MB/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=Retail&category%5Fname=1009%28ClassicTechLit%29&product%5Fid=QL%2D6516%2D0507%2D02%28ClassicTechLit%29

The Factory Service Manual is an absolute 'must have' if you want to keep the repairs within your budget and have adequate guidance beyond this forum.

Check for power at the antenna Should have 2 + one from batter and other from radio.

Theses are all probably related. Get FSM and mightyvac vacuum thingy and start debugging.

Oil Filter on 300D W115

The oil filter is a real bear. It is up under the engine at an angle. So when the center bolt is loosened it will drip oil down your arm and onto parts of suspension. The cannister must be tilted even more to get it out from between members. The filter has two parts. A reusable nylon full flow filter and a replaceable element which I think is the bypass portion. The nylon part should be washed in solvent. The manual shows a special tool to hold and seal the opening in the filter while it is washed in solvent. Be VERY careful that the cannister is correctly seated as you retighten the center bolt, or it will pump large quantities of oil on the ground. Been there, done that. I would keep spinning the cannister as I tightened the bolt to be sure it was correctly seated. Must do it by feel, can't really see it well enough to tell.

The topside filter on the W123 was a huge improvement.

k thanks, ill be attempting an oil change at one point

another question, any clue where I can get the plastic switch for the auto windows? i dont need the whole relay, just the actual plastic. switch is broke,(back passenger window) so i had the bright idea to take it out, actually bad idea. the metal pieces inside complete the circuit. (so even front switch wouldnt operate it) so i put the metal back in place, and put switch on top, so is operating. but the actual plastic button is broke in 2. any help??

oh yeah, car is 115 1976 300d

is there a remote kit available for this car so I can move the oil filter up top? My Cherokee has a top filter and its very nice :-)

Also a remote kit might convert to a more standard filter ???
