My '82 300SD finally "gave up the ghost" at 374K. I located a newly rebuilt '81 engine for the transplant. Is it imperative to pull the engine/tranny as a unit? Can't I prop/jack/jackstand the tranny up, disconnect it from the engine and just pull the engine without having to remove the whole exhaust system, driveshaft, gearshift mechanism, etc, etc, etc? I really would like to find a "short-cut" method if possible. Comments/observations/ideas encouraged! Thanks.
