Boost - How much is too much? [ALDA Removal?]

I want to remove my ALDA, but I do tend to slam down my foot sometimes and I'm worried about having too much boost and blowing my engine. Is there any way to remove the ALDA or get more power with it on without a risk of damaging my engine? Boost gauge and/or controller?

Removing your alda won't have any affect on the amount of boost being generated. That's controlled by the wastegate on the turbo. I think removing the alda just adds more fuel, somewhat beyond what adjusting it all the way ccw does?

I know it dosen't control the amount of boost, but I'm wondering if after I remove it, there will be a condition where there is too much fuel and too much boost at the same time, and should I adjust the wastegate on the turbo to a lower setting after removing the ALDA.

Do you have a boost gauge installed? If not and if you've never messed with the wastegate then you're probably only running about 7-8 psi of boost, way lower than the specified 13.

I don't have a guage and have never adjusted the wastegate. I don't know if the PO may have or not. I plan on getting a gauge. What would be a safe setting for the wastegate and/or boost controller if I were to remove the ALDA? (and mash my foot down all the time)

My '85 barely hit 8psi at full load.

I think the '85s were tuned really conservatively, as far as fuel delivery and boost are concerned. My '85 made about 7 redlined in second, the '84 made about nine or ten. I used a boost controller on both because I coundn't figure out how to adjust the wastegate on a Garrett. I had one off the otherday and having it in my lap made it easy to figure out. Doh!

300SD81, I'd say just set it at 13psi, where it should be.

No ALDA just supplies full fuel earlier... so keep boost in the 11-13psi range, then motor on.
