300td Hero

....That's me! I was heading into town and a white 300TD going the other way came by me. I had to hang a Uey and followed him home. His MB is an 81, mines an 83, mine runs great his runs like crap. I told him where I lived and he could drop it off and I would take a look at it.

Banjo bolt was crapped up solid, cleaned it and the tubing and the Alda banjo. Shifted crappy so I BB'ed the EGR lines and put a solid "gasket" under the EGR valve and replaced a few vac hose connectors including the one for the trans modulator. Adjusted the Bowden cable a bit, blew out the air filter, cleaned and lubed all the linkage knuckles.

Now you can feel the turbo, the door locks work again, and she shifts real nice. Had it back at his house 2 hours after I started, just dropped it off. He just got home this morning and test drove it....he said it has never ran that good before! When he asked what he owed me, I asked for a donation for my 4H shooting club. Five crisp $100 bills! His "favorite shop" was fixin' to charge him that to "re-build" the turbo.

So, thanks to this board and it's members, I got some shotgun shell money for the kids and made an old man grin like a possum! Learned it all right here, thanks again.

Jimmy....why you gotta be so mean? I was just starting heal. As a matter of fact, it did....and yes I gave some thought to evil deeds! Of course his tach didn't work because it didn't have one to start with. Nice Benz, his sister bought it new, he bought it from her....they are both older...so no kids in car and the blue interior is almost showroom clean....back seat is virgin pure....even the nets on the back of the front seat were still tight. Sweet old ride, just needs to be fondled more often....much like my wife!

What a great story that is! You made that guys month. It is amazing that I think there is more knowledge here than at the dealership when it comes to these old MB diesels.
