I went to make a spare key for the sd and was shocked at the $35 price.

Does this sound right?

Be thankful that you don't pay $40.

But some dealers definitely charge less........however, not in the NE AFAIK.

I have a brass key made at the local hardware store for emergency use.
I'd rather not have the particles in the locks. We keep the good key for every day use.
I've seen the good, genuine, blanks on ebay from time to time. If you're not in a hurry, I'd suggest that. If you go that route, ask the seller questions and for close up pics of the key blank, easy to do with todays digital cameras.

Then again, that could be looked at as a lot of work, multiple searches, questions, photos, etc. The $35 is just at the cusp of being ridiculous, but you'd at least be done with it with a genuine key.
For $35, I'd suck it up and do it, but I wouldn't tell my wife about it
$40- maybe not.

Yeah, the Mercedes dealers charge do charge that high for a miserable key.

I bought one about 10 years ago and I think it was $25-$35 even then, in Southern California

Buy a chipped key at Ford sometime-- you'll surely appreciate that luxuriously low price of $35!

They charged my sister $100.00 more to make a key for her Taurus!

I paid about $35 after tax for my key from the dealer. Be careful of the plastic key head, it breaks off pretty easily with normal use. I ended up filling mine with superglue to keep it on the key and make it stiff.

I paid $22 for the plastic key head (when I bought the car it was missing). WHAT a ripoff!
