99 E 300td window regulator

What is it that breaks on these ? The window will go up and stay up by lifting by hand but the motor just makes a click noise like the window is allready up. I mean what part of the regulator ?

A very ill-designed guide for the cable system. The cables would be fine if the guide didn't break.

I did fix one of these in the past. It hasn't broken yet.

Not to hijack the thread, but do you really have a 1999 E300TD? Do you know that D means "diesel". These cars were never imported by Mercedes Benz of North America. If that is what you have it is unheard of in the US.

Actually, I think you have an E300d. Isn't a TD a station wagon in Mercedes parlance?

It's the guide or plastic cable pulley as I like to call it. These can warp with age and the cable can derail. That's what happened to my rear right door on the '96 car. I didn't feel like replacing the whole regulator so I just put everything back, carefully closed the window and I don't use it anymore because if I do the cable will probably derail again. MB really cheaped out with these plastic pulleys. I don't think using metal pulleys would have made the company go bankrupt.

BTW, what you have is an E300 Turbodiesel, also known as E300DT, not TD as that designation is for wagons, and I'm assuming yours is a sedan.
