Need help identifing part 1980 300D

Hello,

I'm new to the forum and have been searching trying to find what this part is called under the hood. There seems to be a great wealth of knowledge here so I'll give a post a shot. I have been searching and reading threads and tons of websites trying to identify the part. (pic attached) I have carefully looked through a Chiltons manual and there was no mention of the part. I am ordering the M-B CD-Rom manual but it isn't here yet.

Sometimes I get a bit "wordy" so I'll try to be quick. Also, if I should have posted this in a different forum, please let me know.

The part in question is the larger square unit that has a bunch of wires going to it and is mounted on the right front wheel well. It also has heating/cooling lines running through it so I thought it may be the heater control, but I think that may be the little round unit to the front of it(where the mono valve lives?). The reason I need to know what it is is because there is a ton of coolant leaking out near the bottom through a seam. I'd like to know, before I pull it all off if I can replace a gasket in the bottom portion, or if I need a complete replacement unit. I can't even ask a parts guy if there is a gasket available because I'm having trouble describing what it does.

Thanks in advance for what I am hoping is a answer!

Sounds like the dreaded ACC servo. If it is the servo, you don't have a monovalve. There are solid state replacements for $$$ but even a standard replacement servo is $$.

Sorry, I missed the picture. It is definitely the dreaded ACC servo. You can search on the topic here and get a lot of info. Performance Products carries the new replacement.

Same servo was used in Chrysler Imperials.

man i just sold one on ebay for $42

If you dont need heat (everyon should only be so lucky, you can route around it. There is also a good chance that you can just replace the lower portion. Start looking for a parts car.....

Talking cdplayer

If you are a DIY kinda of guy you can go to a European junk yard like PIC N PULL. With you own tools you can dismantle these things and search the trouble spots. Can save you big $$ if all you need are a few good parts. Some cars I have found already have had these parts replaced. But it takes some searching. Alot of repair shops snag these things too. Just keep looking. Good luck.

... to check on the website www.**************.com and look at:
http://www.**************.com/store/item.php?item=Early
which is an " Automatic Climate Control Conversion Kit " that sells for $75 + S&H. I'm betting your A/C does not work and unless you plan to get it working, so this kit might be worth considering along with your solving the coolant leak.
Best regards,
Sam
