ASR , and MPG for '98 300d?
Hi all,
Did the 1998 300d have ASR or some form of traction control? And what MPG are you seeing on the highway? Thanks, Paul T |

My '98 has ASR and it was standard on all E class sedans in 1998.
ESP, the electronic stability control system was an option. I get around 29-30 around town and 32-34 on the highway with my '98.

Thanks for the reply
I am considering moving from a 300 e (one wheel drive) to a 1998 300d. Thanks again.

Also in 99...The only difference I rememeber from 98-99 is the 99 added the side head curtain air bag from front to rear?
I get right at 30mpg on my dailey 110 mile commute. Half of that is at 80mph and the other half at 10-15mph.

The ASR is OK but expect to put snow tires on it if you drive north of the mason-dixon line. I use snow tires on all 4 wheels and it drives like a dream in NH winters but I had tried it with all seasons and it was pretty bad in my opinion. The ASR would kick in constantly and it felt like I was driving with one foot on the brake all the time. Snow tires solved that.
