Just a reminder about the oil fill - you'll recall that I described to you how I changed out the oil pan with one from a 190D that DID NOT have an extra capacity chamber on the side. I'm pretty sure I gave the side chamber to you with the other spare parts in case you ever wanted to put it back.

It looks like it holds about a quart, so the specifications on that car will be off by that amount. It's custom!

I topped it off fine, you cant really go by the book, usually when you come to the last spec'd quart, you take a look at the dipstick.

I'm buying a topsider for the next change. I will be using amsoil and bosch filter (or turkish fram's, if I can find them)

Sounds like the wrong dipstick or dipstick tube is a possibility. Also possible that there is something in the pan that blocked the drain hole before all of the oil came out?

Stupid Question, but I'll go ahead and ask...

Okay - I know this is a stupid question, but...

When is the best time to check engine oil? When will I get the most accurate reading?

After it has been parked all night on level ground. That way all the oil has drained back into the pan. The dipstick measures the oil in the pan.

Cold (warm is ok) and sitting on level ground, thats when I try to do it. Engine off though.

Read the entire thread, it sure wasnt the dipstick.

wait atleast a half an hour to check oil if the car was started - sure, you'll be missing a VERY small amount of oil during the reading...
