Got my euro lights! Pics and questions.
So got my euro lights off ebay finally. Total cost with shipping was a little over a hundred bucks! Good things come to those that wait!
So how do these things work? There seems to be some kind of running day lights? Fogs dont come on at all. Only one of them is actually bright enough to drive at night and thats only with the brights on. I guess the wiring is different. My car was eurospec and federalized. I also got euro turn signals for a buck! These seem to have only 2 wires while the federals had 3. The third wire is definetely "grafted" in. Are these for the hazards? The PO of the lights had hacked them in and I think its time to get the soldering iron and multitester out and reverse engineer whatever he did.

Your plugs need to be re-arranged. Sounds like with the current setup you got city lights for low beam and high beam is getting no juice. The reason there are only 2 lines to the corner is because european cars do not have a light in the corner that turns on with the headlight, instead they have a 5 watt bulb in the main reflector of the assembly that comes on. Here are your instructions for re-wiring the plugs. Chances are you still have the 6-hole plugs but if not you can use the ones attached to the tail lights.
Here is the plug wiring diagram.

Hmm, does anybody have a photo of what they look like with the city lights on? Still trying to figure out if i'm 100% certain that I want to go with the Euros on my, uh.. Euro 300D.
I sorta like the Federal look.. at the same time, the Euro look is very 'crisp', if that makes any sense. Gah! I can't decide! |

city lights are just very dim. They are 5 watt bulbs so they don't really do much. It is nice running those and fogs though.
Here are the city lights prior to me blacking out the inside of the assembly:

Well, I already have a pair of those right now, heh. Round 7" Hella H4 E-Codes.
They light up the road real bright, and the bulbs for it are cheaper (H4). Was a good buy at $75, shipping included. |

Maybe my terminology is off. You can get E-code 7" lights to fit a US headlight cluster, or get a Euro headlight cluster that has round lights. You have to look at the pictures closely to see that the headlight element looks like a 7" lamp but the reflector is part of the bucket and the lens is the whole rectangular front piece shared with the fog light. It's a very subtle difference until you see them side-by-side.
Check out this eBay listing - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MERCEDES-240D-300D-BOSCH-HEADLIGHT-ASSEMBLY-EURO-PAIR_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ140737QQihZ009QQitemZ190038302745QQrdZ1 That's a full piece of glass across the face, not a plastic door surrounding a generic 7" lamp. The W116 and R107 seadled beam headlights were unique US designs but the W123 sealed beam design was a take-off or designed in parallel with the round Euro design. The main reason I promote round Euros so much is I think they make W123s look their best Sixto 93 300SD |
