Put my inatke on the SD!!!!!!!!!

Hell everyone, today as i was going to clean theoil around the breatherhose going into the airfilter housing. it completly ripped off!!!!!!!!!!!!, so i took my brothers cold air intak off his old car, and put it on mine, instead of using an oil seperator, i just put a breather hose filter onto the old tube, and just capped the oil drain with a cork that is very snug,,,,,,everything is running great, and it sounds amazing,

I figured that the breather filter was fine, because hardly any oil comes out of it any way, so i figured it would just be fine,,,

if anybody has any suggestions or questions to what i have don , please respond below.
-thanks

There is no breather filter. Wait until the engine is hot, then see how much comes out...

Why do you not replace what is broken with the same part that is not broken. Now, I realize this makes some sense, but try and get past that.......

to tell u the truth, i had the intake already, and it eliminates the old rattiling airfilter housing, and i figure if i maintain the filter the all will be well,
it also cost me nothing to do it so , win-win?

Almost. The filter is taking in hot air from behind the radiator and in the engine compartment. Not good for performance or engine longevity.

That is a very short sighted cost savings really. The old one rattled because it was broken. Here is a fairly priced replacement from ebay.

It allows you to keep the finely German engineered automobile in top form. Remember, these engines are known to last a very long time for a good reason. forcedInduction made very good points about this......
BTW, he is not talking about your engine running hotter, he is talking about your engine injesting hotter air from the engine compartment, not the "fresher" air from the duct up front.

It's not hotter as in coolant temps, the radiator will take care of that. I mean intake temperatures will raise sending exhaust temps higher as well. The general rule is EGTs will go up 1* for every degree the intake temps go up. If taking in 85* air with the stock filter from outside the car gets 1300*f, taking in 185*f from behind the radiator will raise EGTs past 1400*f.

He capped the oil drain tube that goes under the air filter housing.
