Diesel Water Seperator 1979 240D

I was toying with installing a water seperator on my four banger. Any thoughts on a good model, size. Any links on putting these in?

Any help I would appreciate it

In the fuel?

Racor

Question. Would the additional filtration hamper the mechanical fuel lift pump
for the Injection Pump?

Mine had a Baldwin/dahl setup on it when I bought it. seems to work ok, though it collects very little water. (a good thing!)

The ~2000 Isuzu NPR Diesel uses a fairly compact unit that can be bought at certain GMC and Ford pickup dealerships for about $75.

I was quoted a fairly high price for a Racor unit.

It was.....MUCH larger than needed; but it was all the parker store had in stock. I'll be picking one up shortly.

Try here:

http://www.marinefilters.com/

They stock a small Racor filter (about 7 or 8 inches tall) which is perfect for an MB.

I have a filter mount from a Caterpillar that accepts these baldwin filters with water valves on the bottom. They are big filters and only cost about 8 bucks.

Um, perhaps we should ask "Why are you considering buying one?" I might be way off here, but unless you have a real problem, I'm not sure such an investment is the best use of your money. my $.02.

I've seen more than a few Racor 500FG's on w123's at the junk yard, and they fit just fine on the driver side wheel well with a mounting bracket. No other pumps are needed. A great addition if you use VO in the car.

I got a small Stanadyne unit installed(FM-10) that I feel is the correct size unit for the job, and it seems as though the car runs smoother across the board. I have actually drained a few ounces of water from the year or so I've had it in there, so I know it's working. I think it's just on the worthwhile side of justifiable, but not absolutely necessary. Now my mission is to install a Motor Guard TP oil filter. Those things will actually keep your oil honey-colored as with a gasser. Imagine the wear insurance it would provide. Only trouble there is the oil return has to be a gravity-feed, necessitating an adapted connection to the oil separator return tube. No kit for that yet.
Having polished fuel running through your IP won't hurt it one bit.
