B100 instead of Purge?
Anyone ever tried using B100 in a jar instead of Diesel Purge?
I'm a tightwad. I have some premo B100. I dont want to spend $20 on a tiny bottle of Purge. Are the solvents in BD strong enough?

Can't hurt to try. You could add an extra dose of something like diesel Kleen to it too.

I just run a tank of b100 every once in a while. Nothing compares to Purge.

Diesel Purge is sacred, and travels here from the mystic lands of Deutschland.
![]() B100 is just smushed soybeans. ![]() Nothing beats the cleansing power of diesel purge. B100 is better than diesel in that regard, but not anything like purge.

I got two bottles of purge delivered for less than $20 from Inter Auto Parts in San Diego.

I run b100 all the time and it is nowhere near as strong as diesel purge which I have also used. Spend the $20 it will be worth it and you will get results in 20 mins instead of 3 months or longer. Cheers

I love that place. I drive there (about 30 minutes) at least once a week. I have never found any place that has oem parts as cheap as them. They have diesel purge for about 7 or 8 bucks.

Result:
Maybe. Ok, I did it today, 1 qt pure B100. Ran 30 seconds, and all sorts of ugly fuel infested the jar. Ran it for a bit, then put another quart of Bd with a healthy dose of Kleen added. Let it run the jar down. It did make a difference. Maybe not the greatest difference in the world, but it did help a little. When it was done, the engine idled without a shake, smoke almost non-existent. I"m satisfied that I can wait till my next order before getting some purge. Your results may vary.

Definitely shop around for purge, $20 is way too much. I have a place around the corner that sells it for $8, it used to be $7 not too long ago.

Diesel purge didnt do squat in the terms of cleaning out your ENTIRE fuel system. Like my fuel tank and fuel lines going to and from it. biodiesel is a much better solvent and B100 will clean out more garbage as its a strong solvent.
Diesel purge did good the first time i tried it on my 300SD, but after that nothing......i ended up replacing the injectors. Diesel purge will do good for a one time deal with a MB that has been driven for 200-300K miles on LSD. It will clean out the black gunk left over from years of that cancer causing diesel fuel. But now that ULSD has arrived (and mandated for every pump in CA) it will do nothing really. As ULSD cleans out LSD gunk. As i said in another post. When i ran DP in my friends 81 SD black crap poured out of the return line and with his engine having 600K miles on pump diesel i shouldnt have been surprised to see that much crap clean out of his system. Biodiesel on the other hand cleaned out everything in the fuel system on my 87 300D. As i started running it on alternative fuels immedietly after i bought it. So when i ran a diesel purge through it i had no black gunk come out of the return line nor did it make a difference in power/economy. Burn B100!!!

So, although its been 3 years, its only actually been about 5000 miles since my last purge. You are therefore implying that I can spend my money better on other parts, and more methanol?

I spent $70 and my time to have my injectors taken out and tested. One of them failed and had to be disassembled and cleaned and rebuilt. All are good in spray pattern and pop off. Idle is better. No purge, no B100, nothing else. Why screw around with chemicles and what not when you can get it tested and fixed if necessary?

I did a diesel purge on the '85 after running B100 for several months and I didn't notice any change at all and the stuff coming out of the return lines looked about the same as the stuff that went in. I have yet to give it a try on the '84 but I wouldn't expect it to do much.

Because in all cases, an injector rebuild is not necessary. For some, all it takes is B100 or Diesel Purge to solve their problems. Different situations call for different plans of action.
