85 300td
Anything out of the ordianary I should check on one of these cars? I am familiar with 300 series diesels. Anything about the rear suspension that I should check carefully? The rest, motor, tranny and even AC check out OK.
Thanks. Sorry, meant 300TD - the wagon.

Ask the owner if they ever repaired or replaced any of the rear syspension components. With the car running, get yourself and another person to sit on the rear deck with the back lid opened. See if the car raises back to level and when you get off, returns back down to the set height. Check the fluid resivoir under the hood for the rear syspension. See if the oil is relatively clean and the res. is full. Drive the car and see if the rear is bouncy.(Bad shocks). Tha parts are available but pricey. I did the whole rebuild on my wifes old '84 wagon. If you ever replace the shocks, I pre filled the shocks with hyd fluid and pumped the air out before I installed them.
The fuel vapor recovery tank on the drivers side behind the spare can be a problem. The later wagons used a plastic collection tank that cracked. I replaced the plastic tank once and the damn thing cracked again.(diesel fuel smell). I finally found a steel tank off of an '82 and no more problems.
